A holiday tour of blogger Kyle Knight’s chic home

Posted on 13 December 2010

We’re beginning this week’s series of guests with blogger Kyle Knight of Knight Moves, now also an editor of High Gloss magazine. We fell in love with her home when it was featured on La Dolce Vita, and we’re thrilled Kyle agreed to show you what it looks like all dolled up for the holidays–and how to achieve the look too.

Since my holiday decor collection is a bit scant, I’ve been shopping for Christmas goodies over the past few weeks. There are so many fabulous options out there! Too many options can be overwhelming and much as with non-seasonal home decor, picking a style and color palette for your holiday decorations can be tough. Tough or not, I have to get moving or else we would look like the Grinch had ransacked our house!

Focusing mainly on our living room for the time being, I went with a neutral color palette…sticking to golds, silvers and whites. The room has orange accents (including a large orange rug), so I won’t buy anything with much red since it doesn’t mesh well with everything else. Luckily, the “no red” rule narrows down the pool of choices.

I’ve picked up a few things during my scouting missions…including these cinnamon scented pine cones. They smell SO amazing! These were $2.50 per bag at Michael’s.
This season I’ve been on the lookout for greenery made from Magnolia leaves (like this wreath) so I was thrilled to come across the garland on the mantel at a local store called Mary Cates and Co.
I found the silver striped votives at Michael’s. I also bought flameless candles since I don’t want to light the oil painting above the mantel on fire. I set the striped votives on top of stocking holders purchased at Target. Luckily I already had the julep cups!
The silver ornament ball wreaths are from Z Gallerie and they are hung directly on the mirrors with some 3M Command Strips.
This pretty Birch vase filler from Z Gallerie also found its way home with me.
I added a bit of lighted garland for the buffet in the dining room….I found this one at HomeGoods.
These glittery frame ornaments from West Elm make cute labels for stockings, don’t they?
The sparkly wreath hanging on the fireplace screen is from Crate and Barrel. I’m a little annoyed with it because the glitter is getting everywhere. If you’re glitter-averse like me, you might want to steer clear of this one!
It wouldn’t be a proper Christmas post without mentioning my favorite candle…Thymes’ Frasier Fir. Here it is in action along with an angel that my grandmother gave me.
One thing in our collection that I’d like to replace is our tree….it is definitely too skinny. It was perfect in our last house because the living room was so teeny, but this room could handle a bigger one. Maybe that will fit into next year’s budget. I think I’ve conquered this room for the time being. Now we just need to buy and wrap some presents!
What is on your list this year? Do you buy ornaments or new wreaths every year? What colors do you use in your holiday decor? Is it a color scheme other than traditional green and red? I’d love to hear all about what Christmas looks like in your home!
