p. allen smith goodies to give or receive
Posted on 12 December 2011
What a wonderful time we had at P. Allen Smith’s garden home retreat, where we photographed his holiday decor to share with you in our December issue.
Allen has so many great ideas that we wanted to share even more of his tips with you. So, he graciously offered to giveaway a signed copy of his cookbook:
And a trio of his gardening card decks, with how-to tutorials:
We’re going to make two lucky blog winners happy and giveaway the book to one and the gardening how-to’s to another! Leave us a comment telling us your favorite holiday decor idea from Allen’s own home, and you’ll be entered to win.
Winners will be chosen in a random drawing via random.org on December 18th. Happy holidays! We’re looking forward to reading your comments.

I loved it all, but I thought his taxidermied swans on the console table in the foyer really stood out!
SO TALENTED!!!!!!
It’s important to me that the holiday décor work with the existing décor of my home. Even though the traditional colors are red and green, I’ve never followed that literally. To me, it’s about a celebration and the spirit of the season, and I tend to look for colors and ideas that will fit harmoniously with the interiors.
Love his home, his farm, his style…but especially dying over the mantle in the parlor. The leaves in the garland and the bright fruit really pull it all together.
Would love to have this book. Need all the help I can get.
I am always so inspired by P. Allen Smith! I love the use of all natural Christmas decor instead of all the commercialized glitz and glam. This year I went all natural on my Christmas decor, and I absolutely love it! I will continue to do this every year! Thanks for the inspiration!!
so inspiring!

The mantle!
Wow! Sign me up!
I would have to say the garland around the MOSS MOUNTAIN FARM sign!!
I love all of the greenery and organic elements he used in his decor!!
Choosing only one favorite is a tough task. My favorites are the wreaths on the guest beds (how welcoming!), the table centerpiece, the swans, and the abundance of fresh greenery.
Hello….such a gorgeous home…a pleasure to view, thanks! Well one of my favs. from this lovely home has got to be the awesome fireplace swag…a beauty! Thanks, cheers, Valerie.
Miss our family and friends in Arkansas. Nothing like the Arkansas flair in the decorating. We keep trying to bring ‘pieces’ from Arkansas each year to add to the Washington, DC scene. We have the perfect place for the book. (You think politics are rigid…so is everyone’s decorating styles. Maybe we can get something started here:)
Merry Christmas.
I love P. Allen’s natural flair
He calms my soul and inspires my heart.
love that he uses natural things from his farm, like the magnolia and pine boughs on the stairs, all the natural elements are my favorite idea to use in my home.
I absolutely loved touring Mr. Smith’s home through the pages of your magazine. He certainly makes decorating for Christmas look easy and stylish. It does not appear that there is anything that he can’t do. Love the look of his book!
Love, love, love P. Allen Smith.
I have several of Mr. Smith’s books, have seen him at the Chicago Botanical Garden, and have watched his programs without fail on both out local PBS stations and on Create for several years. Tremendous advocate for all of we who love to garden and cook, as well as for those of us who have studied the great historical gardens of Europe in college. Allen is a constant inspiration!
The tall glass dish with fruit, pine cones and fresh boughs as a centerpiece is wonderful!
I love the garland around the mantle!!
Love that everything is natural – real pine garlands around the door, the tiny trees, wreaths. Simply beautiful, nothing gaudy – everything is simply elegant!
