Northwest Arkansas Fashion Week Co-Founders Jade Terminella and Danielle Vaughan
How would you describe your styles?
Jade Terminella: Luxurious and simple
Danielle Vaughan: Classic and functional; I’m a working mom.
Favorite designers?
Jade: Calvin Klein, The Olsens, Stella McCartney
Danielle: Right now I’m loving MOTHER denim for their skinnys and Vince for their basic layering pieces.
Style icons?
Jade: Gwyneth Paltrow
Danielle: Jackie Kennedy and my momma
What do you do when you’re not busy planning NWAFW?
Jade: Co-owner of Lola Boutique
Danielle: Sales for Ashby Street Outdoor
Tell us a little about your backgrounds.
Jade: I was born in Fayetteville and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. I am the mother to three fur children: two girls and a boy {Milo the cocker spaniel, Penny the lab mix and Izzy the basset hound}. I have a Bachelor’s from the UA in Business, focused in Transportation and Logistics. My sister and I opened Lola in 2004 in Downtown Fayetteville and can’t believe that we just celebrated our 7th birthday last fall. I am a lover of all dogs, an amateur yogini and a foodie.
Danielle: I am a creative spirit who seeks out unique people and experiences. I am resourceful, determined and passionate in both my professional and personal life. I feel most useful when I am being inspired or inspiring others. I look at obstacles as opportunities to serve others. Nothing comes before God or my family. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband who supports me in everything and a beautiful daughter, who is sweet, spunky, fearless and opinionated. I love nature, live music and painting. I despise busy work, negative people and anything that hinders my creativity and productivity. I am fiercely loyal to my family, friends and clients. I hate being rushed and I hate to be late. I have developed an addiction to coffee–perferably Arsaga’s Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I love to listen to people. I truly feel that my life’s purpose is to serve others, which I get to do in my job everyday.
When and where did the idea for NWAFW first pop into your heads?
Jade: I’d been thinking about the idea for a few years, but the plan didn’t come into place until I collaborated with Danielle.
What gave you the idea?
The apparent need for a large scale fashion event in NWA with the focus being about giving back to the community.
What were you goals in creating NWAFW?
Our goal is to be able to give back on a level that none of us could achieve on our own. We’ve united to create a platform to raise funds for the local non-profits that mean the most to us a whole. They include 7 Hills Homeless Center, Art Amiss, Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter, Restore Humanity, SingleParent ScholarshipFund, Spay Arkansas and American Cancer Society.
What did you model NWAFW after?
Of course, we modeled the core of the events after New York Fashion Week, but NWA Fashion Week will be an event all its own. Our shows will all be held in one location (East Square Plaza, Fayetteville) and the team at Goddard Design Group has created a beautiful atmosphere for the event.
Were people quick to join in the cause?
Yes! We’ve had an amazing response to the event from the community.
How did you get the word out?
Our marketing campaign for NWAFW has been focused solely around social media. (Facebook: facebook.com/NWAFashion // Twitter: twitter.com/nwafashionweek // YouTube: youtube.com/nwafashion)
How long before you realized that it would catch on?
We knew this event would be popular from the beginning. Who doesn’t love Fashion for Philanthropy?
What’s been your favorite part about the planning process?
Forming new relationships with fellow entrepreneurs and market leaders in NWA.
What are you most looking forward to during NWAFW?
The shows!
Any plans to continue this as an annual event?
Fashion Week will be an annual event and we hope to eventually have both spring and fall shows.
Top 3 things you hope to achieve through NWAFW:
1) To raise awareness and funding for our benefiting non-profits, 2) to educate the community about the importance of shopping local and 3) to host the best fashion event that NWA has ever seen!
Anything special you want to tell At Home’s readers?
We invite all of Arkansas to join in the celebration of our community and honor the character of our hometown, Fayetteville.
