At Home headed to Hillcrest for the Second Harvest Fest on Saturday, and we were delighted with the beautiful weather and community support of the event! Booths lined the streets with vendors selling all kinds of hand-crafted gifts, and with teams anxious to show off their chili-cooking skills. Just in case you couldn’t make it, we captured some photos and decided to post a few of our favorites. For more information, visit www.hillcrestharvestfest.com. Hope to see you next year!

As anyone who’s ever been to Trio’s in Little Rock will tell you, the dessert tray is pretty difficult to resist… Thanks to David our server for explaining each treat in tempting detail!
Happy Friday, everyone!

We had a hankering for fresh Arkansas produce, so we made our way to the Argenta Certified Farmers Market (CAFM) (Tuesdays and Saturdays, 7 a.m. to noon) located at 6th and Main Streets in downtown North Little Rock. We found fresh flowers and beautiful fruits and vegetables just waiting to be enjoyed, plus we loved seeing so many locals (and in most cases, their dogs) out together on a Saturday morning. Snatched up some sunflowers and juicy peaches too…what a way to start the weekend!
For more info about the CAFM program’s Farm to Chef Network, which pairs a chef or restaurant with a local farmer with the goal of matching what the farm produces with a part of the chef’s menu, check out our September issue! We talk with some of the participating chefs, and they share a few fall recipes made from farmers market ingredients. Butternut squash pancakes, anyone?

Argenta on Saturday mornings is also the site of an art and craft market, where Bella Vita Jewelry sets up her glorious shop. Girls, it’s near impossible to pass jewelry designer Brandy Thomason’s booth without stopping to try on a pair of dangly earrings or a statement-making ring. Try it and see for yourself!

For our September issue we are featuring El Dorado in our “On The Road” section. Laura Allen and Megan Lane were taking a trip down to this booming small town and I tagged along with my camera. I am from El Dorado, and I had the best time being back home on the downtown square. Everyone is always so nice and welcoming, it was hard to leave each store. Every time I am home there is another cute shop or boutique that has opened. La Bella’s was our first stop and we met up with the owner, Jim Robinson, who gave us lots of home-made fudge samples! That was such a treat, so we couldn’t say no!
We visited several great shops while we were in El Dorado, including Murphy Long Design, Backwood’s Art Gallery & Framing, Expressions, Murphy-Pitard Jewelers, Especially for You, Taylor Jewelry & The Slaughter House of Gifts. For lunch, we stopped by the Elm Street Bakery. It was packed, so while we waited for our table we sat at the original soda fountain and had a coke. Other places to eat on the square are Fayray’s, House of Wylie, Main Street Pizza and The Olde Towne Store. It was great to be back in El Dorado and I hope I get to make another visit soon. We had such a great trip!
Be sure to watch for the full article about El Dorado in our September issue.
